From The Nocturnal Cave Art Exhibition, Haus Rathmann, March 2024
From The Nocturnal Cave I Farewell The Day 14 March- 19 March 2024, 2-8 pm In an unfinished structure, the exhibition invites visitors on a journey of discovery through the changeable layers of time and space, illuminating their social effects. The building itself defies the hectic dynamics of our time and space as an architectural rebel. At night, a similar analogy of resistance unfolds: the stretching of hours leads to a break from societal constraints. By playing with acoustic echo effects and spatial displacements, by transforming matter and states of consciousness, by immersing themselves in historical and narrative time levels, the artists break with conventional forms and practices. They celebrate cyclical and circular movements that promote a new experience - beyond the rigid lines of chronology and linearity. Inspired by the stubborn architecture, interdisciplinary contributions weave a dense network of spatial and conceptual connections that speculatively transition into the realm of night and sketch beings that thrive in hiding, far from daylight. The "Hepatica" house was conceived by architects Herbert Prader and Franz Fehringer in close coordination with the owners. Their design embodies a postmodern understanding of living, embedded in a lifestyle that unites ecosphere and architecture. This symbiosis of nature and structure is expressed primarily through its organic-mineral form, an observatory-like view into the garden, and the presence of fire and water elements within the interior architecture. Construction began in 1978 and was continuously optimized. Original plans for a spherical upper floor resulted in the cylindrical base of the swimming pool, which in turn created space for interior balconies. During the construction work, the project encountered technical and personal challenges that occasionally stagnated progress. Despite these difficulties, the vision of an alternative and symbiotic lifestyle has remained inherent in the building to this day.
